Mike Mahay is a drawing artist with works predominately on paper. His practice stems from a self-taught approach of observing what is fleeting through the permanence and immediacy of ink. Organic matter and the inanimate are taken at their structural form to present as foundational, non-figurative. Elements and subjects are lost among foliage or debris, in others the lines are minimal remarks.

Topics studied are of solitude and solace, fear and identity, and proud joy and resilience. Being a first-generation Canadian of Indian descent, Mike brings both his personal perspective and the stories of those before him who lived silent and hidden.

The green of now blends into the gone.

Mike is based in Vancouver on Coast Salish lands.
